Dr Alistair Somerville
MBChB (Auckland), FRNZCGP, Dip Child Health, PG Dip Clinical Education
I have been working as a General Practitioner since 2000, and as a partner at Cairnhill Health Centre since 2009.
I enjoy my work as a GP. I think that a lot of benefit arises from good patient-doctor relationships. I work hard to do a good job of managing acute illness, as well as working with people to reduce their risk of chronic illness. I like to work with people to look at what non-medical approaches might make a meaningful difference to their situation. Sometimes medication is appropriate, and I am careful with my prescribing.
I also have interest and experience in skin cancer checking and diagnosis, and skin cancer surgery.
I am married to Rebecca, who works as a paediatrician. We live in Mt Eden. We have 3 children, aged 15,12, and 9 (2018). My interests are outdoors, including cycling, skiing, paddling. This year I have started some fly fishing and mountaineering, which I hope to continue with and get better at.
However the reality of this phase of life, is that I seem to be chief Uber driver and soccer coach!
We have an excellent team at Cairnhill Health Centre, and I hope that we do a great job of your General Practice care.
